It was nearing my birthday and I decided that I wanted to do something I've needed for years and years but had always put off for another day: sinus surgery. I've had a deviated nasal septum ever since I was in high school when I got beaned in the face by a basketball. I haven't been able to breath out of the left nostril since then and have always had to sleep with my face pushed up hard against my pillow to pull traction so I could breath. Dr. Petersen performed the surgery and when I woke, I felt like my face was full of plastic. Turns out it was. These huge stents were in my nose. I had to walk around the house for the next 4 days with this gauze under my nose for all the blood that would drip out. I wasn't allowed to blow my nose at all, so it all clotted up and made it impossible to breath. That was ok, since I hadn't been able to breath for years... When I went in to have the stents removed, I became teary-eyed and almost wept for joy when I could actually breath through my left and right sinuses together! I should have done this procedure years ago...

BBQing with friends
Like most people, we get together in the summer with our friends for a good, old-fashioned BBQ. This year we went down to Rock Creek park and ate us some weeners and chips.
Avery's Soccer Team
Avery played soccer this fall. They tried all the girls out at many different positions, but Avery really preferred being a defender, because that's what she is at heart. Avery's team was really good, in fact undefeated through all their games. The last game of the year was against the other undefeated team. It was 0 to 0 throughout the entire game, and with 5 seconds left on the clock, we thought it was over. Then, out of nowhere Avery zoomed in from the wings and kicked the ball in to the goal for the win! We were like, "wha?!? Was that Avery? And why is she scoring a goal as a defender?" The crowd went wild and the other team's coach (Avery's old coach) grudgingly congratulated Avery. It was her first and last goal of her entire soccer career.

Hiking around Deirke's Lake
We went with our friends the Adams to Dierke's Lake and park for a nice hike. It's a reservoir down in the Twin Falls canyon that the kids like to swim and play around in. We hiked around the lake, up the canyon, then down back in to the canyon on the other side of the lake. It usually takes about an hour or so.

Ward Party and Visit from Dan
Dan and Sean came out to visit us and we all went to Harris Pond, a cool park that is privately owned out in Burley. It's got a zip line across the lake, a "blob," where you can launch someone into the air with a couple of larger dudes jumping on to the other side, and paddle boats.
